I saw the above quote come across my tumblr feed the other day.
I had several thoughts. First, who is Miyamoto Musashi? Thankfully, Wikipedia was available for a quick perusal, and I found out he was a Japanese ronin and master swordsman. I know all about the term ronin from the Robert DeNiro movie I saw on a date in college entitled (appropriately) Ronin.
After going down this short rabbit's hole, I also actually thought about the quote. I mean...have you ever thought about how much time you spend thinking about yourself vs. the world? I was a bit humbled by that idea, and this morning as I got ready to leave the house, I paid attention to my thoughts and the balance of how much I think about myself and my world vs. how much I think about...well....anything else.
You might try it. I likely wouldn't have identified as myopic if you'd asked me just a few days ago, but after paying attention to my thoughts and pondering Miyamoto's words, I must hang my head and admit: I think deeply about myself and lightly, sometimes, about the world.
What would my life look like if the opposite were true?
I hope everyone is having a happy Tuesday and a lovely week.
